The question about technology integration in the language classroom is not if, but how we should design learning experiences that are significant, engaging and motivating for our students. In this full-afternoon Pre-convention Institute, BrazTESOL EduTech SIG, we will discuss, consider tech integration frameworks, reflect, and share practical ideas that can be used in your next lesson plan.
Join us for a full afternoon of tech-infusion that will make a difference in your everyday teaching.

Beyond comprehension: video as a resource and stimulus
This workshop will look at ways of rethinking video use in the language classroom. Rather than treating video as audio, we will look at a whole host of activities which truly embrace the visual. In so doing, we will be focusing on new video genres, such as mash-ups and virals as well as analysing the benefits of taking a genre analysis approach to exploiting video. The written word is not forgotten, however. We will also touch on the multi-modal nature of online video texts, here the comments on the clips can be as important as the clips themselves!

Ben is a teacher trainer and materials writer. He has taught English for over twenty years in the UK, Spain and Hong Kong. He currently teaches on The New Sc
hool’s online MATESOL program (New York). He is main author of the adult coursebook series ‘Framework’ and ‘The Big Picture’ (Richmond). He is the author of the teachers’ methodology handbook ‘Working with Images’ and the forthcoming “Language Learning with Digital Video” (Cambridge).

Hacking the ELT Classroom - Hands-on Learning in the English Classroom
Exactly how can we hack ELT? To help you tap the full potential of the 3.0 Maker Culture in language teaching, we will see how learn-through-doing activities can lead to memorable, meaningful and experiential learning experiences. This session will provide you with participative tasks that promote problem solving, language exploration, knowledge sharing and digital fabrication. Designed to address most levels, the tasks can be easily implemented in your own classrooms. Join me for a fun hands-on session and as we like to say in Making: If it can be imagined it can be made.
